Academic Radio and TV Station “CENTRUM”
About
The beginning of the academic broadcasting station activity goes back to 1970 when the radio relay centres of particular student hostels on the campus joined together to form one radio centre named the Student Radio Rzeszów “Centrum”. The radio programme was cabled to almost 2000 potential listeners. It was a typical students’ programme focused on achievements and problems of the University.
The most recent history of the radio starts in 1994, when the Rzeszów University of Technology applied to the National Council of Radio and Television for a licence to broadcast in VHF. In 1994 the name and the programme concept of the radio station were changed and the Academic Radio “Centrum” became the first commercial radio station in Rzeszów. Since then every hour its listeners have got the latest national and international news professionally prepared by the Polish Section of the BBC. Another asset of the radio is its vast offer of other programmes including academic issues.
The station can be found on the FM dial at 89,0 and has a 100W transmitter, sending a clear signal to up to 40 km around the city.
It has a DJ studio, a small production studio, and a spacious recording studio adapted for large groups.
The following equipment is used by the station: AKG, SHURE, DENON, MARANTZ, SONY, EELA AUDIO, TECHNICS, AKAI, BEHRINGER, PHILIPS, YAMAHA, TEAC.
It is the most popular radio station in Rzeszów, especially among listeners under the age of 30.
In 2001 the station was granted a new licence to broadcast academic programmes until the end of 2008.
In 2004 the radio station incorporated the Academic Television “Centrum” which is aired on cable and its programmes are designed to disseminate information among the University community.
